Media City UK

2011 sees the opening of Phase One of a brand new city. The first of its kind, built on the foundations of Salford’s historic docks and home to around 5,000 media workers engaged in creative and digital businesses, MediaCityUK will house over 2,500 relocated BBC employees from London and the north, plus a new 800-student and staff campus for The University of Salford.

Initially covering 36 acres and with a potential to cover 200 acres within a decade, the new city includes bars, cafes, shops and restaurants and a central piazza for large-scale events holding up to 9,000 people. Also included are seven HD television studios, including the largest one in Europe and two audio studios, one of which is dedicated to The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Mill Group’s client Salford City Council describes the project as: “The catalyst to raise the profile of Salford, to raise aspirations and to create job opportunities for local residents”.

Appropriately, The Mill Group’s own media expertise was commissioned by Salford CC to provide one of our VW Comments Campervans for ‘The Garden Party’ - a summer event at which visitors’ thoughts and perceptions of the project were captured on film and a strong message of their dynamic plans was spread - our DVD of comments assisted in the process.
